APEx, the Academic Pyramid of Excellence, is essentially a measure and display of how successful academic programming is for collegiate students. The program initiatives set forth by the national organization of NSBE are put in place to ensure chapters provide their members with necessary tools for success and to uphold the mission statement. Being one of the key pillars of NSBE, excelling academically leads to a successful academic and professional career in STEM. Mercer University's National Society of Black Engineers wants to establish a network pipeline for prospective students, current Mercerians, and Mercer Alumni members to ensure success .
